Assistant Principal's Message
Greetings Parents and Guardians of Elmwood Academy Students,
My name is Keith Shively, and I am honored to serve as the assistant principal of Elmwood
Academy. It is a privilege to support our students in Mechanicsburg, a community I deeply
cherish as a proud graduate, resident, and parent within the Mechanicsburg Area School
District.
I graduated from the Mechanicsburg Area School District in 2003 and earned my bachelor's
degree in education from Elizabethtown College in 2007. I hold a Master’s Degree in Special
Education from Temple University, along with an Administration Certification from the same
institution. Currently, I am pursuing a doctoral degree through Gwynedd Mercy University. This
school year marks my 19th year in education. My career spans six years of high school special
education teaching, four years of special education administrative work, and seven years of
middle school special education teaching. Most recently, I served as the Therapeutic Emotional
Support Teacher at Mechanicsburg Middle School. I am grateful for my diverse experiences in
education and excited to bring my passion and expertise to Elmwood Academy.
On a personal note, I am married and the proud parent of three daughters, all of whom attend
Mechanicsburg schools. Two of them are currently in middle school, and one is a 9th-grade
student at MASH. I enjoy sports, particularly baseball, and am an avid supporter of the
Baltimore Orioles. I also coach swimming for the Mechanicsburg Swim Club and serve as a
Lifeguard Instructor. Our household is bustling with pets, including two Irish Setters, Sully and
Delilah, and two cats, Gordon and Archer.
I am deeply committed to equity in education and to ensuring that all students have the
opportunity to succeed both academically and socially. Serving the Mechanicsburg community,
which has given so much to me, is a great privilege. I look forward to continuing my work on
behalf of the students and staff of the Mechanicsburg Area School District, with the aim of
inspiring students to explore and empowering them to innovate both locally and globally.
Warm regards,
Keith Shively
