Communication

Classroom Communication

While email is convenient and expected in today’s world, during the school day, I am often not at my desk to receive emails. I am able to answer emails before and after school as well as during our special period. Please do not expect an immediate response if it is sent at a time when children are in the classroom. The students are my top priority. :D

In addition, often I do not check my email regularly after I leave school for the day. Typically, I leave by 4pm. If something is sent after this time, there is no guarantee I will see or answer it prior to the next morning when I come into school. I will however, promptly answer it the next morning when I arrive.

I use email primarily for quick communications such as but not limited to;

  • Student is sick and you would like work sent home.
  • Asking a question about homework/field trips/school/etc.
  • Letting me know a student will be late or hasn't been feeling well
  • Transportation changes/early dismissals/appointments (Please include Mrs. Mylin: [email protected] and Mrs. Lebo: [email protected] on these emails as well!)
  • General FYIs(Going out of down, death in the family, change in routine, missing homework, etc)
  • Behavior check-ins

If you have a major problem or concern, whether it be an academic, social or behavioral, please consider discussing these concerns over the phone or requesting a meeting. I believe the lack of face to face contact or ability to hear ones voice with email communication can often lead to miscommunications when a concern needs to be discussed at length.

Often, I do not have time during the school day to answer very lengthy emails that require a lot of thought and response. I want sure to be sure that there aren’t any misinterpretations from either party and that matters are dealt with effectively. I find that that we get things accomplished much quicker via phone or in person meeting when there is an event or concern instead of going back and forth over email. However, I would be more than happy to set up the phone call/meeting through email or a note if there is something you would like to discuss. I appreciate your interest in your child’s success here at school and working together as a team.

 Thank you for continued support, Mrs. Maribeth Allen
